You Do Not Exist

You do not exist
Yet my mother despises you
You do not exist
Yet the world warns me about you
You do not exist
And still people convince me that you do not exist
So, I guess
You really don’t exist
Or you’re not allowed to exist
Because your existence is a taboo
Your existence is frowned upon
And I should not exist with you
Because our love is not holy
It’s not written in the books
It’s not pure enough to be blessed by the heavens
So, I pass by you in sanctuary streets
And shake my head a couple times
Because I must be seeing things
You do not exist
And I do not exist with you
You must be a devil in disguise
Trying to lure me into hell with you
Gently touching my hand and whispering sweet nonsense to me
But you don’t exist
Or do you?
I tell my mother about you
And she tells me to pray
I tell my father about you
And he laughs in disbelief
I must be going insane
Because the world doesn’t see you
So, why can I see you passing by me
Why can I feel your presence in the air I breath
And why do fragments of you exist in me?
People start calling me crazy
Because I see things that they don’t see
So, I go to therapists
And desperately try to remove you from existence
But you still speak to me
In cafes and buses
In classrooms and grocery stores
I see you existing in people
And I want to follow you
Try to locate you
Try to understand you
You do not exist.
You do not exist.
You do not exist?
And I finally give in to temptations
You’re too sweet not to taste
And I see myself as I kiss you
You do not exist
And I do not exist either
Our existence is a threat
So, we exist in secret
If the world refuses to give us the right to exist in it
Then we’ll exist in each other instead
