The Ocean and Its Lover

I violently beat on the rocks
My waves rising up and down as if breathing heavily
You dip your feet in me
And I thud so loud that the sky begins to shudder
Fear begins to appear on your face and you hesitate
You think twice before approaching closer
But the sun shines so warmly on me
And I gleam beneath its golden showers
I look magnificent
I’m warm; millions of sea creatures find asylum in me
And you envy them wishing you had fins for limbs so you could make me your home
Wishing you had gills instead of lungs so you could breathe me in
You want to exist in me
Live in me
So, you courageously jump
And dive deep into my clear blue water
I engulf you; refusing to let you go
You struggle and begin to flap your arms
Like an injured bird desperately trying to fly in the sea
But birds don’t swim, my naïve lover
One wave after the other, I keep beating you down each time you attempt to escape
And I begin to pull you closer to me
My currents too powerful against your thin arms
You breathe in my salty water and begin to struggle for air
My water is a façade; its beautiful on the surface only
And you hang on to life
But my waves grow taller and angrier as you beat against them
And as you slowly stop struggling
My waves calm down
And my sea creatures gather around you
You look beautiful as you peacefully lay on me
And my waves carry you to the surface
The sun begins to set
And its golden rays color your pale skin
I calm down
And rock you back and forth
Your skin feels so warm against my salty water
I never knew you could calm down my storm
I move you to the shore and lay you there
My lover, you are not like other swimmers
Because even after my waves attempted to drown you
You come back to me with open arms
Ready to drown in me again
